Carry Out alcohol on Canton

This spring, Roswell City Council unanimously enacted an ordinance that allows patrons to carry alcohol out of certain establishments within the city’s “Carry District.” The Carry District is relatively small but does include most of Canton St. and its surrounding areas.

The good news about this ordinance: it keeps people moving around the downtown Roswell areas and (hopefully) clears up some of the restaurant congestion. And…BONUS: You cannot get arrested for “DUI while walking!”
However, you CAN be cited, or even arrested, for other crimes if you get too foolish on foot.

Not only can you be charged under Georgia law for public intoxication or disorderly conduct, but Roswell also has its own disorderly conduct ordinance violation. Roswell’s disorderly conduct ordinance is very broad and even includes using “profane or obscene language in public.” Have no doubt that our boys in blue (well, men and women in darkest blue technically) WILL arrest you for this particular ordinance violation.

So, keep it PG as you saunter and sip and you should be just fine.  Have fun and always be safe!
